Hande Küden | Violin
An artist of exceptional refinement of expression allied to a consummate technical skill, Hande Küden is widely renowned for her exceptional virtuosity. She has established herself as one of the great violinists of her generation and her increasingly numerous appearances in Europe and the Far East have earned her a phenomenal reputation.
Violinist Hande Küden – who joined the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra only two years ago – keeps receiving great acclaim from both audiences and music authorities worldwide with her capacity to find something new in scores, and “starting from zero” upon embarking on any reinterpretation.
At the age of eight, Hande Küden sang in a children’s choir and saw a young violinist at a concert. From then on, she also wanted to play this instrument – although her mother tried to persuade her to play the piano. But she insisted on the violin, and a year later was studying at the state conservatory at Çukurova University under Dania Kainova. In 2012, she moved to Berlin to Stephan Picard at the Academy of Music ‘Hanns Eisler’ Berlin and in 2015 changed to Tabea Zimmermann, with whom she studied violin and viola. Also, she won DAAD Artist Scholarship and Lucia-Loeser Foundation Scholarship during her studies.
Küden has regularly solo concerts with all the orchestras in Turkey after when she won the most important competitions in Turkey such as; II. Gülden Turalı Violin Competition, XIV. Edirne International Chamber Music Competition, Necdet Remzi Atak Violin Competition and X. Independent Music Competition ‘Individualis’. Then she got a special prize in Ibolyka Gyarfas Violin Competition Berlin. After getting Aydın Gün Encouragement Award in 2013 by Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), she was chosen to be the ‘Young Musician of Year’ in 2014 by Andante classical music magazine in Turkey.
She gained further musical impetus in masterclasses with Tabea Zimmermann, Dora Schwarzberg, Natalia Prischepenko, Tedi Papavrami, Salvatore Accardo, Haim Taub and Kolja Blacher. Küden also performed with important musicians such as Tabea Zimmermann, Christian Tetzlaff, Fazıl Say, Salvatore Accardo, and Christian Poltera.
She completed her training as an orchestral musician as a Ferenc Fricsay Fellow of the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, and at the Karajan Academy. Before joining the Berliner Philharmoniker, she was the deputy concertmaster of the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin. Since 2019, she is the member of Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
