He is recognised as a leading interpreter in his generation while shining a fresh light on both well-known as well as rarely performed works. Acclaimed for his highly sensitive touch and technical brilliance, Başar Can Kıvrak possesses an extraordinarily diverse repertoire from Mozart and Beethoven to Bartók, Medtner and Crumb.
Başar Can Kıvrak is a critically acclaimed Turkish pianist graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory (class of Eliso Virsaladze) with a red diploma. Between 2003 and 2008, he studied with Pianist Gülnara Aziz in Bilkent University and completed his education there with high honor.
Kıvrak has received many awards in numerous competitions both national and international throughout his career. In 2002 at the age of 16, he attracted the attention of authorities for his success with the 3rd prize at the Ferdi Statzer International Piano Competition. Additionally, he received the “Yamaha Award” in December 2004 and the “Grand Prix” (Grand Prize) at the 2nd International Young Virtuosi Piano Competition held in Sofia in April 2005.
Başar Can Kıvrak has collaborated with many notable orchestras as a soloist. These include all state orchestras of Turkey including Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra and Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, Tekfen Philharmonic Orchestra, Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, Dolnoslaska Philharmonic Orchestra, Yaşar University Symphony Orchestra, Mersin University Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra Sion.
Kıvrak has performed at many prestigious festivals and concert halls such as Prokofiev Festival in Moscow, Rachmaninoff Hall, Moscow Conservatory Small Hall and White Hall, Antalya International Piano Festival, Nicosia International Piano Festival, Ankara International Music Festival, Gümüşlük International Music Festival, Bursa Osmangazi Chamber Music Festival, IKSEV International İzmir Festival and KK Beethoven 250.
In 2018, Mr. Kıvrak together with pianist Cem Babacan made the Turkish premiere of Max Bruch’s Concerto for two pianos and orchestra with the prestigious Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Turkey under the baton of Raoul Grüneis. He was also the soloist in the world premiere of composer Bogatay Köprülü’s Piano Concerto performed in International İzmir Festival together with İzmir Festival Orchestra and conductor Can Okan.
Başar Can Kıvrak currently teaches at Yaşar University Department of Music, and continues his career as a soloist as well as with chamber music.
