SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet
Blaž Kemperle – Soprano saxophone
Jacopo Taddei – Alto saxophone
Alan Lužar – Tenor saxophone
Aram Poghosyan – Baritone saxophone
The SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet is anything but ordinary: four outstanding saxophonists who have known each other since their youth and have been reinventing themselves ever since. Their musical crossover, where a deep devotion to the classic string quartet sound intertwines with great enthusiasm for the rock classics of our time, is complemented by an incomparable charisma that enhances the impressive virtuosity of Blaž Kemperle, Jacopo Taddei, Alan Lužar, and Aram Poghosyan.
From the very first moment of their performances, these exceptional musicians ignite musical fireworks filled with emotion—characterized by an insatiable curiosity for stylistic boundaries and an unwavering pursuit of the perfect ensemble sound. Whether original compositions for saxophone quartet, arrangements of orchestral works, Baroque pieces, or rock music—SIGNUM’s profound love of music extends to almost all eras and genres. It’s challenging to put their masterful joy of playing into words; you simply must experience them.
As award winners at several international competitions, the young SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet made their debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall in 2013. The quartet quickly built on its success: as “Rising Stars” of the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO) in 2014/15, the SIGNUMs have graced the big stages of the world, where they have felt at home for years now.
The SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet frequently garners attention through its quartet concerts and collaborations with fellow musicians. Together with violinist star Daniel Hope, they not only appeared in front of the TV camera for the ARTE TV format “Hope@Home” but also made several stage appearances together.
In the upcoming season, the SIGNUMs look forward to various orchestral concerts, including “Sea of Ice” by Christian Jost with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Concerto Grosso by William Bolcom with the Warsaw Philharmonic, and a Piazzolla Tango Suite with orchestras in Izmir and Istanbul. A season highlight will be an extensive tour of Australia with singer Ali McGregor—exploring the music of the 1920s and ’40s, from Berlin to Broadway. At the end of the season, the SIGNUMs will finally return to Korea, including a performance at the Seoul Arts Center.
A special project close to their hearts is the family concert program “SIGNUM4kids,” through which the SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet explicitly reaches out to young music lovers and the audience of tomorrow.
The SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet has already released several albums, including “Echoes” (Deutsche Grammophon, 2021). In 2024, SIGNUM presented its new recording “Chameleon” (Berlin Classics).
SIGNUM is a Selmer Paris Artist and has been an “Ensemble in Residence” of Bayer Kultur since 2024. The SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet thanks beltepà for their exceptional concert clothing.
